Nalo Hopkinson

Kingston, Jamaica, 1960.

Aunque nació en Jamaica, vivió en Canadá durante más de tres décadas. Empezó a leer con apenas tres años y a los diez ya se atrevía con la Ilíada de Homero. Sus libros favoritos siempre han estado relacionados con la ficción fantástica, desde el folclore caribeño a la obra de Ursula K. Le Guin. En 1995, participó en el Clarion Science Fiction Writing Workshop, donde nació el germen de su primera novela: Brown Girl in the Ring. Con ella ganó el certamen Warner Aspect de Primera Novela y el John W. Campbell, asegurándose un prometedor debut literario.

Desde entonces, ha publicado una decena de libros, entre novelas y antologías, varias de ellas premiadas y nominadas a distintos premios. Su obra bebe con frecuencia de sus raíces caribeñas. También ha sido editora, y actualmente ejerce como profesora de Escritura Creativa en la Universidad de California Riverside, donde forma parte del equipo de investigación de Ciencia Ficción. Fue condecorada con el Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master en 2021.
