Joanna Russ

Nueva York, Estados Unidos, 1937 – 2011.

Joanna Russ fue una de las autoras y académicas más importantes de la ciencia ficción feminista e integrante de la New Wave (Nueva Ola). Empezó a escribir a una edad muy temprana; se graduó en Artes en la Universidad Cornell e hizo un máster en Bellas Artes en la Escuela de Arte Dramático de Yale. Posteriormente fue profesora en la Universidad de Washington.

Ganó los premios Nebula y Hugo por su relato «Almas» en 1983 y el Nebula por «Cuando todo cambió» en 1973, además del premio retrospectivo James Tiptree Jr. en 1995. También fue conocida por sus columnas y reseñas críticas, publicadas durante quince años en The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, y por su larga correspondencia en revistas de género.

Russ también fue conocida por su faceta como dramaturga y ensayista; Cómo acabar con la escritura de las mujeres es una de sus obras más relevantes.
