En 2005 ganó el Premio Literario Lambda por Choir boy, en 2012 ganó el Hugo a Mejor Novelette por Six Months, Three days y en 2017 ganó el Locus a Mejor Novela de Fantasía, el Crawford y el Nebula por Todos los pájaros del cielo.
