Suzy McKee Charnas, ‘Rebecca Brand’

Nueva York, Estados Unidos, 1939.

Comenzó a escribir y dibujar sus propios cómics con seis años y estudió Historia de la Economía en el Barnard College, pues para entonces ya sabía que necesitaría herramientas para construir sociedades ficticias convincentes en las que desarrollar sus aventuras de fantasía.

Más tarde estuvo dando clase en Nigeria durante dos años con el Cuerpo de Paz. Al regresar, realizó un Master de Arts in Teaching en la Universidad de Nueva York y dio clase en la New Lincoln School. El Flower Fifth Avenue Hospital la contrató después como consultora en su programa de tratamiento de drogadicción para institutos. Un par de años después, se casó y se trasladó a Nuevo México, donde se dedicó durante un tiempo a la enseñanza, hasta que la escritura pasó a ser su trabajo a tiempo completo. También ha dado clases de escritura en talleres como el Clarion.

Lo que más la ha influido a la hora de escribir han sido sus estudios, su estancia en Nigeria y la lectura de La mano izquierda de la oscuridad.
