Iris Murdoch

Dublín, Irlanda, 1919 – Oxford, Inglaterra, 1999.

Escritora y filósofa irlandesa, conocida por sus novelas llenas de humor negro y giros impredecibles, en las que analizaba a las clases altas. En 1954 escribió su primera novela, pero publicaba desde antes ensayos filosóficos, como el primer estudio en inglés sobre Jean-Paul Sartre.

En 1978 recibió el Premio Booker por El mar, el mar. Su novela Bajo la red fue seleccionada por Modern Library como una de las cien mejores novelas en lengua inglesa del siglo XX; y en el 2005, la revista TIME la eligió como una de las cien mejores novelas en inglés de 1923. En 1987 fue nombrada Dama Comandante de la Orden del Imperio Británico.
