SHE (ELLA)

Andre Norton

Cleveland (Ohio), Estados Unidos, 1912 – Murfreesboro (Tennessee), Estados Unidos, 2005.

Escritora estadounidense especializada en ciencia ficción. Empezó en la gaceta del instituto Collinwood, The Collingwood Spotlight, donde escribió su primer libro y la que sería su segunda novela en publicarse, en 1938. Trabajó desde 1932 en el sistema de bibliotecas de Cleveland y desde entonces su vida laboral se vio relacionada con los libros. Fue en 1934 cuando cambió su nombre a Andre Alice Norton, notablemente más masculino. Quería que la ayudara a publicar, y ese mismo año logró sacar al mercado una novela por primera vez.

En 1958 comenzó a dedicarse por completo a la escritura y en 1984 la SFWA le concedió el Premio Gran Maestro Damon Knight Memorial, convirtiéndose en la primera mujer en conseguirlo. Murió en 2005 entre sus amigos y sus gatos.

Muchas de sus obras han sido nominadas múltiples veces a premios como el Hugo o los Locus. Con Mundo de brujas (Tridente, 1991) quedó finalista en los premios Hugo a Mejor Novela del año 1964, y con “Wizards’ World» quedó finalista en estos mismos premios en la categoría de mejor relato en el año 1968.
